Hand a site over to your client
For studios and freelancers. Handing a site over transfers it to your client's own workspace once they accept. They own it and choose its plan; you keep access and go on building for them.
A handover is a transfer, not a shared link. Nothing moves until your client accepts, and you never pay for a site that's theirs.
Send the request
- Open the site menu in the editor and choose Hand over to your client…. You'll also find Hand over to client on the project, in Clients and in the dashboard's search (⌘K).
- Who gets it — pick a client you already have, or New client with their company and email.
- Add a note if you like, up to 280 characters.
- Read the sentence that says what will happen, for example: "Lena at Vesper Aviation takes over 1 site once they accept. They own it from then on and choose the plan. You keep access to keep building for them." Then click Send request.
The whole project moves, with all its sites. If it has several, the sheet tells you.
The site's card flies over to your client and waits there until they accept. Undo cancels the request.
What your client sees
Your client gets an email. A new client gets an invitation that creates their account first. They review it in three steps:
- Migration — your note, and what taking it over means: the site and everything in it moves to them, they own it and choose its plan, and you stay as a guest they can remove.
- Who sees it — who will open the site, and an optional invitation for a colleague who Edits content or Builds too. Take it over completes the transfer.
- Plan — they pay for the site plan themselves, in the app. Not now switches nothing off: the live site keeps running on its domain, and they'll be asked for a plan at the next publish to the domain.
After the transfer
- The site belongs to your client's workspace. They see it on their dashboard and can open, publish and edit it.
- You keep building as a guest: pages, content, publishing and domains. You can't delete it, rename it or hand it on; the project says "Owned by Vesper Aviation".
- Your client can end the collaboration at any time.
Clients
Clients in the dashboard lists every client with their status: "Active since Oct 6, 2026", "Invited · expires in 5 days", "Invitation expired" or "Former". A client's page shows their projects, their people and your relationship, with Resend invitation, Copy invite link or End relationship….
Only owners and admins hand sites over and invite clients.
